Joined by a group of local industry leaders and entrepreneurs, the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Co. (Pridco) and Grupo Guayacán Inc. (GGI) kicked-off a series of roundtables that seek to generate opportunities for linking large multinational companies with a presence on the island with the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The gathering, held at Pridco headquarters in Hato Rey, featured Robert “Bob” Dávila as guest speaker. Dávila is the president of DHD Advisory Services and is a former GGI executive director. He has more than 25 years of experience in private equity, investment banking and operations in the mainland U.S. and Latin America. Dávila’s presentation focused on disruptive innovation and how it can impact large corporations as well as startups and growth firms. He explained how managing innovation and disruptive market forces is key for companies at all stages of development seeing as disruption can be a unique opportunity or a severe threat to businesses.
“Disruptive innovation has or will touch every company in Puerto Rico in some profound way, and the choice will be simple — will you be the disruptor or the disrupted? The answer will lie in how proactive you are in anticipating and responding to the powerful forces of disruption,” Dávila said.
Antonio Medina, executive director of Pridco and member of GGI’s board, highlighted the roundtable’s value for entrepreneurs who aspire to become part of Puerto Rico’s economic development activities. “Our goal with this project is to connect and achieve meaningful links between the industrial segments and local emerging entrepreneurs. These conferences, focused on different topics regarding innovation and entrepreneurship, help open doors so that more local businesses can develop business relationships with established industries, while integrating a series of valuable and interesting topics.”
The roundtable series, organized in collaboration with GGI, looks to gather senior executives from Puerto Rico’s industrial base, offering access to exclusive gatherings with international experts on business, economic development, and entrepreneurship, among others. The guests also include a group of local entrepreneurs who lead companies that are favorably positioned to compete and become part of the industrial supply and value chain.
“This roundtable series allows Guayacán and Pridco to provide a unique space for executives and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and generate valuable business opportunities for local companies. This way, we can begin to seed the development of true links between corporate players and the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. Thus we further Pridco’s economic development objectives and Guayacán’s mission of promoting entrepreneurial development as a motor for economic and social value creation. We are proud of this collaboration with Pridco and grateful for their continued support of Guayacán,” said Laura Cantero, GGI’s executive director.
