Eleven companies have been selected to participate in Grupo Guayacán’s Guayacán Venture Accelerator, an executive education program designed for growing companies with proven business models, an established clientele, and a management team willing and able to effectively execute, in parallel with the program, the strategies derived from the each of the educational modules.
The companies participating in the 2014 GVA are: Atención Atención; Brisas del Caribe Corporation (Happy Pet); Elderly Transportation Services Managment (TransCita); Fuller Group; Integration Technologies Corp.; Knowledge Power Group Inc.; La Salle Group Inc.; Pixelogic; Puerto Rico Gourmet Products Inc.; Quality Water Service; and Technology Partners Inc.
“We are very happy to welcome these 11 companies to the Grupo Guayacán family. This is the most diverse class selected to participate in the GVA since its inception five years ago. The group includes companies in the distribution, manufacturing, technology, education, entertainment, and services industries,” said Laura Cantero, executive director of Grupo Guayacán Inc.
“These entrepreneurs and executives are a clear example that even in times of economic hardship, there is opportunity in Puerto Rico. One of our objectives within the program is that these companies accept the challenge of doing business in international markets, and it is our commitment to work side by side with them to accelerate their growth,” she said
In April and May, Guayacán received applications from companies interested in participating in the GVA, which were interviewed and evaluated.
The chosen companies will participate in an intensive curriculum of nine practical workshops, taught by international and local instructors. Some of this year’s instructors are: John Mullins, professor at the London Business School; Neil Fogarty, managing director of Spark Global business and speaker at the 2013 Puerto Rico Venture Forum; Martín Kleman, vice president of sales and customer service at Sellutions-Miller Heiman; Lizzie Rosso, principal at Lizzie Rosso Growth Advisors; Manuel Rosso, platforms vice president of Scripss Networks Interactive; Randy Thompson, president of VA Angels; and Robert Dávila, president of DHD Services and former director of Grupo Guayacán.
The Puerto Rico Trade and Export Company will sponsor the participation of three of the selected companies and will support them during the program, specifically in the development and execution of their export plans, Cantero said.
“We are excited by this collaboration and we hope it translates into the support these companies need in order to launch their ventures outside Puerto Rico. We are also in conversations with other organizations that will provide additional support to participants who are focused on exporting,” Cantero said.
Grupo Guayacán is a nonprofit organization that has organized the GVA since 2010. Guayacán’s vision is to lead in building an entrepreneurial ecosystem that develops global entrepreneurs and global ventures to be an engine of economic and social value creation in Puerto Rico.
